Nano Review.co.uk

The Nano is a tiny mp3 player which was launched a few years after the original and classic iPod. The difference between the first iPod and the Nano was size. The classic player was bulky and far from ideal for jogging and general outdoor exercise. The Nano on the other hand excelled in this respect. The rub came with specification, the Nano only came with 2GB or 4GB memory. This greatly reduced the amount of songs it could hold. The first generation Nano was also heavily criticised in the press for it longitivity. The surface area tended to scratch easily and due to the delicate dimensions of the device it could be easily broken if dropped or sat on by accident. However, the Nano was remodeled in 2007 to improve upon it's durability and video capability. The memory was also increased to a 8GB model.

- Reworked model for 2007

There is certainly alot more to recommend the Nano since it's first generation inception. The reworked model for 2007 can store up to five hours of video playback. This allows you to either store five episodes of your favourite TV show like 24 or download two movies and watch them back to back. The resolution of the screen has also been increased, with Apple promising a 65% brighter screen than before. The usual podcast, audiobook, game and photo features are also available.

The main selling point of the new Nano for 2007 has to be it's video playing capability. In 2006 Apple launched their first video iPod, and have slowly implemented this feature into most of it's models. Though it's highly unlikely to ever be implemented into the budget price Shuffle. You can download episodes of TV series like 'Ugly Betty' for under two pounds each from iTunes.

Whilst the dimensions of the Nano have altered quite dramatically, it's form has morphed into that of the former and lamented iPod 'mini'. But, it's still held onto it's slim waistline, measuring just 6.5 mm in depth.

The first generation Nano used a plastic glass like material which easily scuffed and looked very messy within a short period of time. The classic Nano was remodeled with a aluminum and stainless steel body to rectify this issue. The new 2007 model likewise uses the same anodized aluminum. The usual selection of colours are of course available, silver, black, lime green, sky blue and deep red.
